New Year, New Member For Learning Lab

February 15, 2004--The Learning Lab, the UK's leading centre for free, independent advice on e-learning, is pleased to announce four new members.

The Learning Lab has earned a world-class reputation based on its members' profile and the services it offers to both the public and private sectors. Working in partnership with industry, with public sector organisations and with providers of e-Learning products and solutions, the Learning Lab is a unique resource for all learning organisations.

We are delighted to present four new members: Warwick Ventures Enterprise Fellowship Scheme, fuel, Scran and Sentient Learning. Prof Steve Molyneux, Director of the Learning Lab, was enthusiastic about the Learning Lab's growth over the past 12 months. "As an internationally regarded centre of e-Learning, the Learning Lab has shown its commitment to both industry and education and its reputation is clearly reflected in the steadily increasing levels of membership."

Speaking about their recent membership, Steve Dineen, Chief Executive of fuel stated, "fuel's core business lies in the production of custom built e-learning educational content and online software training. Newest member, Scran, an award-winning learning image website, provides access to over 300,000 quality images, an extensive range of audio/video pieces together with a broad variety of learning resources. Chief Executive, Alan Blunt, said, "Scran, as a world leading educational charity, delivers repurposable educational resources from the nation's extensive art, cultural, social and natural heritage to a broad audience ranging from nursery through to established lifelong learners. Subscribers include all the local authority primary, secondary and special schools in Scotland; schools, LEA's, Higher and Further Education across the UK along with home and international users.

"The broad range of material found on www.scran.ac.uk has been sourced a range of museums, libraries, archives, galleries and commercial sources in the UK and beyond. In conjunction with explanatory texts, material is packaged in a variety of educational specific solutions as well as tailored to cater to the individual needs of lifelong learners.

A flexible membership package has been agreed with Warwick Ventures, who have joined on behalf of companies involved in the Enterprise Fellowship Scheme (EFS). EFS, is a scheme designed to support alumni, staff and students of the universities of Central England, Coventry, Keele, Staffordshire, Warwick and Wolverhampton to explore a business idea and develop it into commercial reality. Launched in the West Midlands in 1999, the scheme produced 14 thriving businesses out of its initial 21 fellows. Speaking about their reasons for joining the Learning Lab, Sue Heath, EFS Project Co-ordinator, said, "Membership of the Learning Lab will enable start-up businesses on the scheme who are involved in e-Learning initiatives to network with many successful e-Learning organisations. The potential opportunities open to our fellows are huge."
